A Complete Re-Creation

With An Eye To Preservation

These days, it’s highly unusual to find a home that’s been in the same family for three generations, but this handsome brick on Woodcrest Avenue is the rare exception. The current owner’s grandparents purchased the home originally, and her father grew up there. Half a century on, the place was filled with happy memories but had remained largely untouched since it was built. It was in dire need of updating.

Since the extended family knew MasterWerks from past and current projects, they called us in to evaluate. Built by master builder Ken Durr in 1970, the house had excellent bones and good curb appeal. The interior, however, was a fossil of its time, built to compartmentalized, mid-century ideas and standards, with numerous rooms dedicated to single functions and a severe shortage of today’s desired amenities. The décor was tired—many would say off-putting. Our challenge was to bring it into the 21st century, while conserving the best of the structure’s solid craftsmanship; enhancing flow, livability, and convenience; and of course, maintaining budgetary parameters.

Good Bones, Great Memories, and a Grand Transformation

Now completely reprogrammed and literally rebuilt, the interior features a bright, open kitchen; contemporary master and added baths; and a functional laundry, with the requisite mudroom. The garage is expanded, and we installed high-efficiency windows, mechanicals, and insulation. Given the overall enhancement of comfort, ease, and aesthetics, the third generation is enjoying their inviting new home—the perfect setting for the next era of family stories.

With today’s inflation and higher-interest rates, revitalizing your current home can make significant financial sense while improving your quality of life. MasterWerks has a lengthy track record of directing these types of projects successfully. To learn more about how our strategic building solutions might benefit you, please contact us.
